ATTACK CARDS AND THE FLOW OF BATTLE

Mar 3rd 2026
Battle cards have a lot of moving parts and as I have built them out they just keep getting more complex! Something interesting I am trying to do with this is to not include any kind of tokens. With this one rule I think it will keep the flow of battles really fast paced as you dont rummage for particular tokens, and most importantly no need to remember random rules that are temporaryily present ( ex. Poison).

BASIC ENEMY ATTACK CARD LAYOUT

Here we have Blesheen and at the top of it’s card is the name of the attack VIOLENT SCREECH.
Below that is a choose target symbol which in this case says to target an adjacent player. If there is no adjacent target than you instead use the symbol below that which means no target available. If no target was chosen than Blesheen would gain "2 stars” and end it’s turn. Enemies will build up stars until it hits a limit. For instance, when Blesheen gains 3 stars it leaps into the air, landing in a random spot and crushing anything underneath it. Then it refreshes its attack deck and draws a card. The next order of operation shows the “!” event symbol. All kinds of interesting ideas can be played out! For this one players must perform a skill check with a roll of a dice and depending on your result the card tells you what you must do. Next is the battle symbol, starting with some keywords in bold. Pattern is the first keyword which just means the attack it performs will hit multiple spaces which is listed at the bottom of the card in red. Push 4 does exactly what you think and pushes the character away 4 spaces. Below keywords is where the actual meat and potatoes of battling happens. First is the dice symbol with a 3/3+. This means Blesheen would be rolling 3 dice and on a result of 3 or more (3+) would be a HIT. The next symbol is a sword which means damage. For each hit suffer 1 damage in this case. And the last symbol is the timing of the attack. Each player as they equip different things have a weight associated to them. So, if you weight is higher than the timing of the attack than your player cannot block this attack and must simply take whatever damage Blesheen inflicts upon you! This will make creating a build out for your character as if you are to heavy you may have some amazing skills to perform but you are going to get clobbered every time you are attack, it’s gonna be fun!

SPECIALTY KEYWORDS AND THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

Sometimes keywords will have a * at the end of it. This means it is a keyword not in the rule book but instead explained directly on the card. This will save the player from having to remember 100 random keyword rules and allows me to think of really interesting ideas after a player is attacked! Blob Mimic uses the keyword “Atrophy” here. Below that is the explanation which says that if you block any hits than Blob Mimic suffers that damage instead. Blob Mimic also tends to gobble players up so if a player successfully blocked all hits than the player inside gets a awesome bonus turn! This is one way where wearing very light armor would come in handy.

SPECIALTY EVENTS

Buroro has a keyword called “Bottomless pit*” which removes it from the board completely. below the attack is a event symbol but in red. A red symbol means this event will be in effect for an extended amount of time. The red was necessary but its nice that at a glance you will know that card is still in effect. In this case on Buroro’s next turn he shows back up with the targeted player, taking him for a ride through some tunnels.

LOTS OF ADDITIONAL ART

Some attacks dont have a lot of info on them so when there is extra room on a card some additional art is placed at the bottom to help depict what the enemy is doing for that attack. Pickles Nip and Yip card has a cool little extra artwork of it lashing around, neat!

Everything i’ve shown off today is still in pretty early development so anything is still subject to change, be expanded on or just deleted all together. Next up will be an introduction to player weapons and how they are used. Until next time!
